Holidays in Mousehole Cornwall

Mousehole is a quaint coastal village with narrow streets, traditional granite cottages and a picturesque harbour. The oldest part of the village is a conservation area with many grade II listed buildings. Dylan Thomas honeymooned in Mousehole and described the village as 'the loveliest in England'. Located just a short distance from Newlyn and Penzance, Mousehole has its own small, safe, sandy beach in the harbour and there are many other beautiful beaches to be found only a short drive away, such as at Porthcurno and Marazion.

Mousehole has a good selection of cafes and restaurants for meals and drinks throughout the day, a number of gift shops and several excellent galleries selling original art by Cornish artists (some are Mousehole-based). There is also a general stores / post office and a chip shop.

There are various festivals and celebrations throughout the year in Mousehole including the Mousehole Carnival, Sea Salts and Sail (biennial maritime festival), Tom Bawcock's Eve and the famous Mousehole Christmas Lights (from mid-December until early January). Tom Bawcock's Eve sees the making of Star-gazey pie - a long-standing tradition continued at The Ship Inn overlooking Mousehole harbour.

Contrary to the advice given on some websites, parking is not generally a problem in Mousehole. It can require a little patience during the main school holiday Summer months and over the Christmas and New Year period due to the high volume of visitors to the village and limited accessibility due to narrow streets. Outside of these peak periods, parking is straight-forward. There are plenty of parking spaces with a choice of three car parks charging between £2 and £3 per day, some limited on-street parking and a half-mile-long stretch of free parking along the main route into the village. This road overlooks Mount's Bay and so provides an enjoyable short walk into the village.
