Holidays in Penzance Cornwall

Penzance is an historic market town with a wide variety of shops and excellent transport connections, the main line terminating at Penzance Station. There is a large working harbour from which the ferry to The Scilly Isles operates and sailing boats come and go daily.

The town hosts a number of art galleries including the superb Penlee House Gallery and Museum which should not be missed and where work by the Newlyn School of artists including Stanhope Forbes and Walter Langley can be seen, together with artefacts related to the social history of Penzance and some interesting archealogical finds. Other galleries well worth a visit include the Cornwall Contemporary opened in 2006 and The Exchange Gallery which opened in 2007 and has a brilliant LED light display in the evenings.

Penzance has a wide variety of supermarkets and a DIY superstore if needed. The main shopping area is along Market Jew Street which has a raised pavement on one side and the Causeway Head pedestrianised area which adjoins the Street. There are some good antique shops and pubs - including The Admiral Benbow which featured in the TV series Three Men in a Boat - in Chapel Street which leads back down to the harbour.

Penzance hosts the Golowan Festival every Summer which incorporates a huge variety of entertainment and celebrations spanning 10 days and culminating in Mazey Day with its street market and parades.
